Understanding DNS Records: A, CNAME, MX and TXT
Common DNS Records Explained
DNS records control how different services for your domain are routed.
A Record
An A record points a hostname, such as your domain or a subdomain, to an IPv4 address.
CNAME Record
A CNAME creates an alias that points one hostname to another hostname.
MX Record
MX records specify the mail servers responsible for receiving email for your domain.
TXT Record
TXT records are commonly used for domain verification and email authentication records such as SPF, DKIM or other service verification.
Warning: Incorrect DNS changes can interrupt your website or email service. Record the existing values before making major changes.
